Clinton Has a lot to Say on Jones Case

"When I am out of office, I will have a lot to say about this," said Bill Clinton during his Thursday press conference. The "this" he was referring to is the Paula Jones case and related issues, which led to his impeachment.

The president said he's biting his tongue for now in order to spare the American people any further ordeal. But his selfless silence will not last forever. When his term is over, watch out for a Clinton candor blitzkrieg.

"When I'm done, then I can say what I want to say," he told reporters.

Taking President Clinton at his word is always a risky proposition. But as long as he's given us a time and date certain when he'll no longer be responding to uncomfortable Jones case questions with mob-like "See my laywer" answers, the Washington press corps might as well get ready for the big day.

How about starting with this:

Mr. President, where were you on the morning of April 25, 1978?

Juanita Broaddrick says she recalls where you were, very clearly, as a matter of fact. She places you at Little Rock's Camelot Hotel, where, well -- you know the rest.

But as long as we're on the subject, Mr. President, Ms. Broaddrick says you bit her until she submitted. Another woman, then a young Little Rock lawyer who's afraid to be indentified to this day, says you also bit her during a similar attack the very same year.

Then there's former Miss America Elizabeth Ward Gracen, who, according to Newsweek reporter Michael Isikoff, says you bit her, as well.

Are all these women making these stories up, Mr. President?

And what about Denise Reeder? Your former bodyguard, Larry Patterson, says he spotted your brother Roger driving Ms. Reeder to the back gate of the Governor's Mansion one night in the late 1980s. She had black eyes and bruises, and Patterson said she looked like she'd either been in an accident or was the victim of an assault.

You wouldn't know anything about Ms. Reeder, would you, Mr. President?

Curiously, several of the women who allege you attacked them describe an astoundingly similar phenomenon. Jones, Broaddrick and Kathleen Willey all say your demeanor changed markedly as you forced yourself upon them. They recall an almost Jekyll and Hyde transformation during which your face grew intensely red.

Odd that these three women should all describe the same detail, isn't it, Mr. President?

It's a good thing that President Clinton has a lot more to say about the Jones case -- since there are so many questions left unanswered.
