engineer: Thanks for your prompt response - as usual. My understanding as someone who simply tries to keep as much on top of this as I can is that practical marketplace Bluetooth is indeed many moons away - years in fact.

My request for your views had more to do with the latest flurry of news on Palm, Nokia and Symbian. Nokia is planning to work with Palm on a new handheld, and apparantly has asked 3 Com to work with Psion on use of EPOC at the core of that.

Your opinion on the current Palm/Symbian situation would be very helpful if you are free to give it. If not, understood.

I thought the those who followed up on our earlier discussion of TDMA (and those
who think it is outdated technology, might like to read this.
This is a response from an RF engineer at Netro.

"Thanks for your interest in Netro and its products.

CDMA has been used mostly for voice on cellular networks, operates in the
800MHz and 1.9GHz (PCS) bands, and uses a spread spectrum technique that
codes each digital packet and allows multiple calls to be placed on one channel,
boosting caller capacity 20 to 35 times that of the analog network.

Netro's AirStar family transmits voice, IP and Frame Relay services to small and
mid-sized enterprise (SME), supports licensed frequencies at 10, 26 and 39 GHz.
Netro's patented CellMAC(tm), or media access control layer, coupled with the
product's TDMA and ATM foundation, enables the delivery of voice and data
traffic dynamically , on a packet-by-packet basis.
This increases spectrum usage and decreases equipment costs at the hub location.
AirStar uses TDMA to interleave multiple digital signals onto a single high-speed
channel. ATM allows the transport of multiple services with a guaranteed QoS.
