United Parcel Service (UPS) is quietly working on an e-bill presentment and payment offering.

UPS is entering a field that is supposed to be one of the hottest Internet services, a space that has already seen the entry of Microsoft, Netscape, CheckFree, Yahoo, Oracle, Citibank, Wells Fargo, Chase Manhattan, and a host of other banks and high-tech vendors.

The e-bill initiative is supposedly being handled by UPS Capital, a wholly owned subsidiary of UPS, though it couldn't be confirmed. The year-old UPS Capital has been developing financial services for UPS customers.
