Steve, this is NOT good news for IBM's PC business or the AMD chips that go in these machines. It's a signal IBM PC business is in trouble. Competing against Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, etc. through traditional retailers will be much easier than competing against the likes of Dell on the Internet. Plus, reduced volumes during Christmas season??? Hmmm. Perhaps this will serve as a prelude for Dell to take over IBM's PC business.
