I think a lot of those pulp fiction writers, Hubbard being one, knew each other. I don't know if the Heinlein story is true, but I do know that "Scientology" began as a proposed "science of the mind", then got a name change to Dianetics before the original best seller of that name came out- then, when the couch warmers wouldn't warm-up to Hubbards "science", he revived the Scientology name and changed the thrust of his efforts into a religion.

Hubbard might one day(100years from now?) make this list for an acorn that is in his Dianetics. Couch warmers could do well to use his methods, IMHO. But his bogus non-denominational religion precludes me from nominating him here(grand acorn IMHO, yes- but wild claims of perfection- no). I once walked into a Scientology "church", and a follower there had made up a sign in her office that read simply, "Do What Ron Says." hehehe...Run for your lives! Hubbard himself never to my knowledge requested anyone personally worship him, nor proclaimed himself any kind of savior.
