John Stichnoth and Thread, I think it is about time to have some meaningful conversation about competing flash and non-flash solutions. I find the recent story (that I just posted) about the microdrive to be indicative of OEM concerns regarding IBM microdrive's power consumption. We have all mentioned this as a drawback in the past, but now I located some independent benchwork via a search on Infoseek... to-tech.com Based on this testing the battery life of the handheld device tested (Cassiopeia E-105) was cut from 2 hrs and 29 mins to 1 hour and 20 minutes. This raises serious doubt about the microdrive's longevity in the fast moving pace of consumer electronics as devices need to become more and more compact and power efficient. Bring on the SD card!
