"Puzzled" doesn't make it sound like you're going to figure it out. Say something else. For instance, nobody likes to hear scientists say they're "puzzled." "Scientists are puzzled." No one likes them to be "puzzled." Not much confidence. Might as well be addled. Or asleep. Does that mean you'll maybe get to it after lunch? It's back-burner, is what it is.

"Working hard on a solution" is good;
"Checking on that" is too.

"We'll get you those answers."
