BEIJING, CHINA -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) has announced a contract with
China Huayu Development
Corporation to construct China's nationwide vocational and educational campus
information system, a
large-scale project combining cabling and data networking technologies in China.

The contract is valued at more than US$3 million. Under the agreement, Lucent will
provide its preeminent and
reliable SYSTIMAX Structured Connectivity Solutions (SCS), Power Sum Solutions, as
well as a series of Cajun
Campus data networking switches and services, to support multimedia education on all of
the 200 campuses. Of
these, 100 campuses will deploy Lucent's Cajun Campus data networking solutions.

The project will cover all education management information systems in national,
provincial, municipal and
prefectural vocational education management schools in China. The total number of the
information outlets is
100,000, with an average of 200-300 outlets in each of the campuses.

Lucent's SYSTIMAX SCS can support up to 1,000 Mbps error-free transmission and
550MHz broadband
applications. In support of multimedia education on every campus, the system has the
ability to transmit data,
voice and video reliably and smoothly. Lucent's award-winning Cajun P550 Gigabit
Switch and the company's
Cajun 120 Workgroup Switch will provide vocational and educational campuses with
high-speed, integrated,
Ethernet networking solutions, connecting all dispersed teaching premises as well as
libraries on the campus.

The Information Engineering Department of China Huayu Development Company
(Huayu) is the Golden System
Integrator for Lucent SYSTIMAX SCS and data networking products, responsible for
the design and installation
for this significant project.

educational campus," said Xiang Zizhi, general manager of China Huayu Development

our superior design and installation, together with Lucent Technologies' high-quality
products, will deliver a truly

Lucent's Global Commercial Markets will cooperate with Huayu in the design,
construction and after-sales
service. The project has already started and is expected to complete at the end of the
year. Upon the completion
of the project, all vocational and educational campuses will be awarded a 15-year
Product Warranty and
Application Assurance.

In China, Lucent Technologies has seven offices, eight joint ventures and three
wholly-owned companies,
managing the production and business of a wide range of network facilities. Lucent
Technologies China employs
more than 3,500 staff and has already set up its research and development arm, Bell
Laboratories, in both
Shanghai and Beijing.
