ASPT's QTR RESULTS are BREAKEVEN vs First Call Consensus of a loss: Monday October 18, 4:15 pm Eastern Time Company Press Release SOURCE: Aspect Communications Corporation Aspect Communications Reports Third Quarter 1999 Results SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Aspect Communications Corporation (Nasdaq: ASPT - news) today reported revenues of $129.9 million for the third quarter ended September 30, 1999, compared with $112.2 million for the second quarter of 1999 and $138.0 million for the third quarter of 1998. On a pro forma basis, excluding the impact of intangible asset amortization, diluted results per share were break-even in the third quarter of 1999. Calculated on the same basis, this compares to a diluted loss per share in the second quarter of 1999 of $0.18 and diluted earnings per share of $0.28 in the same quarter last year. Including the impact of intangible asset amortization, diluted loss per share was $0.08 for the third quarter, compared with a diluted loss per share of $0.26 in the previous quarter and diluted earnings per share of $0.21 in the same quarter last year. The Company generated positive cash flow of $21.1 million in the most recent quarter resulting in an ending cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments balance of $225.1 million. ``I am very pleased with the continuing progress we are making on our Company's transformation from a telecommunications equipment supplier to a provider of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software solutions,' said James R. In addition, we closed a number of large transactions from both new and existing customers and shipped a number of new software products during the quarter.' Separately, the Company announced that its name has officially changed to Aspect Communications Corporation from Aspect Telecommunications Corporation. This change reflects Aspect's shift to software-centric solutions and broader value propositions beyond telephony to all forms of customer contacts, including telephone, Web, e-mail and fax transactions.
