A plug for some "hidden" inventions that make a huge difference. And they happened in the last 60 years.
1) Antibiotics.
2) Oral contraceptives.

Come to think of it - every pill on the shelf except aspirin is a creature of this century. Haldol. Valium. Benadryl.
