Rob, there are options available on NAS 100 trust (QQQ) or you might consider the SP100 (OEX). If you want the insurance just to get you through january, consider buying the march or later puts. I shouldn't think you would want them to expire in January. If the sky doesn't fall, you can then sell them back to the market to get some of your money back. If the sky does fall it won't likely stop on Feb 1. So, you'll have your insurance in place for a longer time.
