I think VIX peaked on the day of the selloff in 1987.

With regard to timing, the exit strategy will drive your timing and selection.

With this much time to go; it is very likely that you may have to close out your position between now and expiration. Thus you need to determine how you will exit under those conditions. I personally like to have the credit received be much larger that the combined bid/ask of both sides. If I need to exit; I don't want to make the Market Makers any richer than necessary.

I won't be able to trade until Wednesday so I hope the VIX spikes higher on Monday and Tuesday creating some excellent opportunities.
