Pol Pot is truly a sick leader. Please do not think that I meant that there is a moral "good" in every society. I meant that every society has an ethical code that it sees as good even though the outside world may see it as repugnant. Hitler operated on an ethical code mainly based on his hurt pride and xenophobia. Pol Pot is an ultra conservative (in the strictist sense of the word.) As such, he sees the past as a model for his perfect future. The Khemer (sp?) Empire is his model in much the same way that Hitler used Rome. I am sure Pol Pot feels that his actions are justified according to some twisted ethical code. However, simply because he operates on a code of ethics does not mean that his actions are in any way defensable.
