Amit: Thank you for your post and the site referenced. It seems to me that the recent resignation of AMD's Pres. reflects a difference in economic policy that must be ongoing at AMD. It appears that the present incumbents support a policy of:
1. Performance at any cost - just stay ahead of INTC
2. Take losses if necessary to momentarily take a lead from INTC.
3. Ignore considerations of compatibility and economies of scale.

whereas the departing faction probably saw the folly in all this and sought to model themselves after INTC who clearly sees the need to produce products with all of the above considerations as paramount to being a reliable and profitable supplier of leading edge products.

It is one thing to be a Lamborgini- it is quite another thing to be a Mercedes or GM. Momentary leading edge technology that is not conveniently, massively and profitably implemented is doomed to failure. Time will tell. JFD
