I have some friends who were away for a weekend when a leak developed upstairs... something like $250,000 damage to the house, which was unusable for months while it was being rebuilt. Upstairs utilities? No thank you.

Good point! The downside of using nothing but cotton is that the lint, from time to time, clogs things like pipes and pumps. We quit using the really fluffy cotton area rugs, those clogged washing machines on contact. I still have a big stack of them, I hate to throw them out, they are great when it snows, you put them by the door for people to put their muddy boots and snow gear on. This winter, I guess we'll make everyone go in through the garage, instead. I am looking forward to actually putting Rover into the garage so I don't have to chisel ice off in the morning, but right now the garage is still full of boxes.
