Re: "WindRiver has no lock"

Pala,

WIND has a lock on quite a few things. Here are a few examples.

1. Intel's new IXA (network processor) ONLY runs on WIND's OS as does IBM's new network processor.

2. Almost all the new network chips run on WIND's TMS.

3. WIND and Intel are working very closely on other projects.

WIND+Intel = WindTel (Networking equipment, excellent article).

4. WIND has a virtual monopoly on Intelligent input/output (I2O) with it's IxWorks OS.

5. WIND's OS (IxWorks) will also be used in "System I/O" the merged standard which came about when Intel's NGIO and IBM/CPQ/HP Future I/O merged.

6. WIND's OS used in Cisco's Networks program.
