Chuckles - re: "On the otherhand, Q2 production suggests production wafer starts in Q1 - possible because of contamination or some other problems that take a long time to work out. "

Now who gave all you guys a "Heads Up" on Copper Contamination in Dresden about a month ago ?

Paul

<Something just doesn't jive about the time frames at Dresden. >

AMD may be required to absorb the overhead (>$25M per quarter) when production in Dresen starts rather than ships. If this is the case then there is a possible explanation on the Dresden timetable that AMD does not need the parts to be made in Dresden yet and the extra charge to the p&l would not help.

Copper may not help much until 1GHZ which is not until 2H 2000. The speed differences for 700 Mhz may not be significant w/ and w/o copper. Autin is 100% .18 micron for Athlon wafer starts beginning November.

Sanders said that he expects a ramp of approx 500,000 per quarter hence 800k in Q4 and 1.3M in Q1, 1.8M in Q2. These number may not require Dresden until 2H of 2000.

It does not have to be "contamination" or anything but bookeeping.
