The article was written by an MP3 Technology Correspondent, and it seems to downplay SDMI as a viable entity -- sort of like saying "We're doing okay - who needs them?" I not sure he's seeing the whole picture either.

There really is no disagreement per se. The recording industry is addressing the importance to their market...music sales, and the tech companies are addressing the importance to their market..device sales. He appears to be pointing out that the absence of the security is just as important to the tech companies for the near and perhaps distant future, as opposed to the perceived absolute necessity for the security to the recording industry. Personally, I think there is room for both. However, EDIG can facilitate the implementation of devices providing that dual accommodation to device manufacturers that wish to do so, and also address the desires of those that do not. Best, S.
