Actually, John, a computer can have only two DDR SDRAM chips in it. The catch is that those DDR SDRAM chips will have to be the 32-bit variety, and those are made separately from the 16-bit and 8-bit varieties. But with RDRAM, it's a one-size-fits-all strategy. The same 16-bit RDRAM chip can be used in a two-chip configuration, or a four-chip config, or eight. And the bus width will always be 16 bits wide, as opposed to 64 bits for DDR.

How much of an advantage is this for Rambus? I don't know. But it's definitely something that shouldn't be ignored.
