<<All framers out here, every goddam smacking one, use 28 or 32 oz wood-handled Vaughans. >>

When I was building stalls and such I found a big sucker framer hammer. Being as I was pounding 20s and pole barn nails, it did make my life easier.

<<It happened to be a piece of white oak and a god-knows-what handsaw, >>

He he, haw haw. Glad it was you. I've done some red oaks and they are hard on chain saws. One year I had some burr oak. They have a twisty grain. "Aren't you going to split that before throwing it in the fireplace?" No.

"You saw like a girl."

If you sawed or hammered like this girl, it wouldn't be an insult...;-}>

But I know what you mean... Always grouched me out to hear someone say "you skate like a ggguuuuuurrrrrrrllllllll" or some similar thing... as if maybe it was the most supreme insult imaginable....

Hmmmmph!!!!

I think it's because the work is too physically taxing. I've done "men's work," pre-press used to be men's work, and that wasn't hard, and law used to be men's work, and that isn't hard, but I am not as strong as most men, and I don't give a rat's ass who hears me say it. If framing is too hard for 6'2" Paul, it's gonna be too hard for 5'8" Cobalt, you betcha.

BTW, drove out to the Edible Landscaping Nursery in Afton today, it's maybe 25 miles west of Charlottesville, and bought pawpaw, pecan, fig, grape, gooseberry and blackberry plants. They didn't have any semi-dwarf apples, and were out of good cherries and raspberries. The back of Rover looked like a jungle. Chris started getting interested, he's the one who wanted the gooseberries and the pecans. The lady said, "pecans take ten years," and we said, "better get started, then."
