"Does anyone have a chart that tracks the ratio of gold ounces per person over time?
Was the ratio any different in 1960 or 1930?"

Giraffe, I have seen such information a while back and it was a quotation from an Electronics Magazine.
Here is a page from Cominco:
cominco.com
about general information on Gold-usage.

Giraffe: You ask a very interesting question. I have assembled rough statistics on that matter, based on estimated population totals from a world population web page and historical gold supply data from the WGC. These are the results:

Year #oz/person
1850 0.26
1900 0.56
1930 0.69
1950 0.81
1999 0.66

From my rough data, this ratio seemed to peak in 1950 at 0.81 ounces per person. The ratio has reached a plateau of 0.66 since about 1983. This is a very interesting study - maybe I'll pursue it more in depth.

For more info, I'm willing to share my spreadsheet and graph!
