I think there are some oppressive societies that hide behind the Muslim faith and I find it distasteful. In Berkeley especially there are Afgan neighborhoods, Pakistani, etc. and allowing passive religion in public schools for those neighborhoods would presumably not be Christian.

We all know that the Taliban hides behind Muslim fundamentalism to enforce their doctrines which are oppressive to say the least. Most of the middle east governments won't even come out against honor killings! I'm just afraid of creating a little third world community for the American girls that grow up in these neighborhoods, we need to acclimate them into society and toss those barbarian stereotypes that come packaged as religion.

This is my biggest problem with the prayer in school issue, which is different than the other arguments I hear. I'm not an advocate for prayer in school anyway but my real issue is any passive acceptance of third world oppression which seems to have a religious slant too often.
