Let's face it, this merger is at least 18 months too late. The CRM market is set with Siebel the gorilla, Clarify as a strong #2 player (everyone wants a second alternative to evaluate other than the gorilla) and Vantive, Onyx, etc. as also-rans. Vantive shot their wad going after Siebel, and lost all momentum, as well as the key talent within the company, in the process. What is Peoplesoft thinking?? IMO they should be putting more effort into things like their relationship with CommerceOne to try to get ahead of the curve in an emerging market, rather than to complete a mediocre "me-too" in the CRM space. I think TD's characterization of two drunks leaning on one another is perfect. Expect to see Conway sell out within the next year.
