No. This is important. Without the central organizing influence, what would those who opposed and ultimately defeated Hitler have done? Not near as much of lasting value, I will wager.

All the people you credit reacted to the threat posed by Hitler or Stalin or Capone. The heavies broke real ground, even if we are inclined to hate their guts. The folks who reacted are like the dogs in a bear hunt. You can have a bear hunt without the dogs - but not without the bear.
