It is different this time. No doubt about it. Here are some of my random thoughts on the subject. A number of large caps and tech stocks are very overvalued compared to the wider market. (That is one reason a Wall Street darling gets punished so badly when they miss earnings by a penny.) Of course the funds are not helping the situation any. They buy large caps for liquidity and avoid the small caps.

The telephone enabled many people to enter the stock market at that time. Not everyone is on the internet now just like everyone didn't have a phone. Many consider what we are doing evil and bad for the market and economy. Trading Internet stocks is currently considered gambling by many. I wonder how that relates to buying stock on a 10% margin in the 20s.

Hey! Take my comments lightly. I'm not an economic expert or historian. I'm just an amateur trader trying to stay out of trouble right now.
