The part which kind of bothers me is: While the Shelbyville, Ind., company is paying higher wages -- the result of a local unemployment rate of under 2% -- the company still isn't able to pass that on to customers. I think this is true in a huge chunk of the economy right now, and it is likely to become more so. That would also fit in with the rich valuations the ARBAs and AGILs of the world have commanded even as the non-techs have ground lower this year. Did you see this? Morgan Stanley already operates Discover Brokerage Direct, an online discount broker. Its new plan envisions eliminating Discover as a separate unit and rolling it together with traditional brokerage services provided by Morgan Stanley's 11,000 full-service brokers.
