Marketers Name America Online as Their Most Sought-After 'Advertising Wish List Partner'; Results Show Two-thirds of Marketing Leaders Interested in Deals With AOL
DULLES, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 1999--America Online, Inc. (NYSE:AOL) is the most sought-after media company in today's advertising/marketing world, according to The Myer's Group new research study, "Survey of Marketing Leaders: On Path to 2005."
Nearly two-thirds of marketing leaders surveyed expressed great or moderate interest in developing long-term relationships with AOL, outranking 46 media companies -- both traditional and interactive media companies -- including Time Warner and Turner Broadcasting, which ranked second and third, respectively, in the survey.
The September 1999 study, fielded and produced by the Myers Group, a leading New York City-based market research firm specializing in media economics, also indicates that the Internet is having a dramatic impact on how marketers value advertising and media exposure. As a result, almost half of today's marketing executives plan to increase future spending in the Internet through banner ads, sponsorships and e-commerce.
"More than just attracting advertisers, we want to be a great partner; we are dedicated to building long term relationships with companies and developing plans to help them achieve their business goals. If this new report is any indication, we are clearly making an impact," said Myer Berlow, President of Interactive Marketing for America Online, Inc. "With almost 70 million people now online, and two-thirds of them using AOL, Inc. brands, today's marketers now realize the power of the interactive medium -- and AOL -- in helping them to build their brands and drive transactions. As the leader in interactive marketing, AOL offers marketers a wide variety of premium brands and the expertise they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive marketplace."
Jack Myers, President of the Myers Group, commented, "More than two-thirds of marketers have great interest in expanding their relationships with media companies beyond the traditional delivery of impressions. Several media companies are making significant investments in extending their brands and developing value-based relationships with their customers. AOL's leadership in this arena is impressive and sets a standard for the total media industry."
Methodology
The New York based Myers Group tabulated 124 completed self-administered questionnaires in July-August 1999. Each respondent was personally identified and qualified as a senior brand, product, marketing or advertising or media executive from a leading national or regional advertiser. 87% of the companies represented are national advertisers; 73% spend in local and 64% in regional media. 90% have a responsibility within their companies for developing and/or approving media plans and 82% are directly involved in brand marketing strategies.
