A very worthy set of observations. In the case of the directors, I just tossed out a bunch to consider, and somehow most of them ended up on the list! I agree that there are too many entertainers, although I disagree with LRR that practically none belong. I myself had, in the earlier discussion, listed Balanchine, along with Martha Graham and a few others, but I would actually question, in the end, how important dance is in its impact either on popular or elite culture. I am not sure...By the way, I agree that ranking cannot be taken too seriously, but that is what one does on these lists, so I will myself eventually give it a shot. More to argue about!

I would value your comments on my more recent suggestions, especially the more controversial ones....
