An email I got today from a company called ProxyMate. Dont know if you have heard of them, but look at the improvements they have made to their Internet service, sound familiar......

Dear ProxyMate Customer,

Thank you for your participation in the ProxyMate beta test.

Our mission is to offer a reliable service that enables you to have
privacy while web browsing and convenience while filling out information.
We had some glitches as we have transitioned from the LPWA technical
demonstration to the ProxyMate Beta test. We appreciate your patience and
feedback during this ramp-up phase.

We are happy to announce that we have made some significant strides to
improve the service over the past several weeks. We have implemented a
multi-server hardware architecture to improve the speed and have added a
number of new features:

- Lazy Login: For your convenience, you no longer have to enter your
user name and password every time you launch the browser. You still
have privacy protection and can view the ProxyMate bar without logging
in. However, you do need to log in to modify your default settings or
access personalized services.

- AutoFill: ProxyMate automatically enters your user name, password,
and other personal information on webpages, so you don't have to
remember your various usernames and passwords. AutoFill is extremely
simple to use.

- JavaScript Filtering: ProxyMate requires that JavaScript stay enabled
in your browser, so that the ProxyMate bar can be correctly placed in
the browser window. For added security and privacy, ProxyMate can now
screen out JavaScript programs coming from external websites.

- Privacy On/Off: You now have the ability to control your privacy
settings. When privacy service is turned on, ProxyMate filters
communication to the web sites to protect your identity. When you turn
service off, we let communication flow through the proxy without some
of the filtering.

- Personalization Page: ProxyMate now lets you specify your personal
browsing preferences and change your password and e-mail profile.

These new features are in addition to ProxyMate's earlier features, such
as Alias Generation, Search Bar, and Cool Sites.

We appreciate your continued support. Please feel free to contact us with
any suggestions.

Sincerely,

Robert Lee
CEO, ProxyMate

P.S. We would greatly appreciate your filling out our quick User Survey,
at bin.proxymate.com -- your feedback will help us continue to
improve ProxyMate and to give you better service.

Shift Coming....

>>ps - anyone else see the shift coming? How we went from large mainframes and dumb terminals into PC Client/Server environments and now the beginnings for pools of servers (clusters) or even mainframes and an assortment of end-user devices (PDAs, PCs, WebTV, etc)? Seems like one nice big circle huh?>>

Peter:

The difference is that the "circle" is much much bigger these days. Actually, like a fying saucer, this circle is now in outer space in the realm of thought and spirit.

"What" you say?

Here's the point.

The Old Business model "circle of control" - whether you are talking about mainframes with IBM, PCs with Microsoft or the Online world with AOL, has been broken.

Bottom line: companies - even Microsoft - will NOT be able to control things anymore.

Notice I said "control."

CONTROL is the defining thread of the Old Business model.

TRUST will be the defining thread of the New Business model.

To me, "trust" will replace "control" as THE foundation for operating systems and networks of the future.

For when you bring trust into the equation you've placed higher ideals above money, control and power.

An environment of trust supports the the most efficient distribution of time and energy among people, skills, materials and resources.

We are coming out of an Old Business Model world which has bred distrust, fueled litigation while rewarding the lower ideals of economic power and control.

Ok, Ok, so much blah, blah, blah.

But all you have to do to confirm this model is look at the thriving Open Source movement.

What drives these people?

Money?

No way!!!

Recognition?

Yes!

But how do people get recognized and rewarded in this wild west "open" model?

By doing one thing: openly sharing with others.

What do they share?

Their time, trust and ideas.

How do they get recognized?

By using their talents to "transforming" something ordinary - like a needed enhancement or bug in code - into a new perspective - added value or "fix" - which is openly shared for ALL to benefit from.

Remember Einstein's equation:

E = mc^

And how this maps to Todd Siler's:

M (meaning) = i (information) X t (transformations)

Well, the Open Source movement knows that ALL value is in the ENERGY derived through actions which provide catalysts.

The leaders in the Open Source movement are catalysts which effect positive changes which release more energy into the network.

Why?

Because their "transforming" gifts have helped RAISE the level of "meaning" inside the network, encouraging others to show more cards, share and become catalysts for change as well.

Full disclosure, no secrets or hidden agendas is the coda.

Try to cross the line with a selfish agenda, sloppy documentation or taking the cheap way out and the network will descend upon you and banish you from their existence.

The Open Source model may seem disorganized, but it's beautifully self-correcting, self-balancing.

The way I look at it, all these people are driven to share, serve, trust and each other for ONE central purpose: TRUTH -ie. truth which affirms technical progress and grows the pie.

Novell has a BIG challenge on their hands. For the Open Source movement is not going to wait around and let Novell try to Gulliver the NDS opportunity.

For in this New Business model, arrogance becomes milktoast.

Trust, truth and openness will become THE operating system of the future.

I really think we are moving into the realm where reference to operating systems will begin to merge into into realtime world of thought.

For isn't that what's going on today. The Internet as we know it is simply the very beginning stages where technology and the realtime energy of "free" thought have begun to overlap.

Notice I said "free" for open protocols ensure it's FREE and open.

For technology is really becoming more and more transparent.

Now the real fun begins.

Using this technology to develop, articulate, factor, support, secure new virtual operating values of TIME and TRUST inside relationships.

Like it or not folks, but we're going spiritual in this next phase.

For when control passes to INDIVIDUALS the real work is in educating them to claim this new energy and power which has always been out there.

I tell people that every individual is a network, an enterprise, a valuable piece of spiritual real estate.

I'm sure there will be many individuals who still want to be bought, sold, tracked, sliced and diced, just as in the Old Business Model.

But the difference going forward is that companies are going to have to "ask for permission." In the Old Business model companies carpet bombed us with mindless ads and stimuli. But this approach has worn thin.

Companies need to get to know us personally now.

I don't think they'll cut the mustard.

Relationships will move away from companies.

I think we will get to know each other again.

I think we'll be able to convince more people that the world is NOT a desert and that we don't have to "go to" these oaises of control - companies - to get our food and drink.

I think we'll be able to convince more people that the world is actually a Tropical Paradice, full of blessings, food, fruit, flowers and animals.

Going forward, service will be "coming to us" - not the other way around.

For if we can build TRUST back into our world there is NO LIMIT to what we can achieve.

With Microsoft we are witnessing the falling away of CONTROL. Don't ever underestimate the extent to which energy-taking control models will go to in an effort to maintain control. It's like a wife beater. The wife tries to leave and the beatings just get worse.

Food for thought.

Sorry for the length of this.

Peace.

GO!!
