Well I've heard other's say the same or similiar. But having used Linux on dozens of machines and done all kinds of I/O and compute intensive task with Linux and other Unix workstations and worked with users of both with guru to dummy skills, I suggest that the true picture is this.
watman.com and I could also do this with FreeBsd to be fair.

Their are 100 times as many Linux Guru's as FreeBSD Guru's.
Maybe 50% or more of Free BSD users are advanced to guru.

Maybe 3% of Linux users are advanced to guru.

Any current Linux release will be more buggy than the stagnant freeBSD release

If you pick up the current Linux Journal the article on the tens of thousands of Linux resource sites on the net may give you an idea of the explosive expansion of function and feature content into Linux.

So I agree that in the limited role of Web hosting freeBSD is an excellent Model T reliable OS. At least as reliable as Linux in the hands of equally talented people. But for geting into the future in a timely manner FreeBSD may not be the best choice.

Any suggestion on how to install and configure Oracle on FreeBsd?????? An example.
