Beats me. Like all of us, I had a dumb savings account when I was a little kid. But I didn't have to get an SS number until many years later. I don't remember when. But I think it was in the very early seventies. Or it could have been the late sixties. But at the time, the second number group was one's year of birth...

The Social Security Amendments of 1972 authorized SSA to to enumerate children at the time they first entered school.

WHW could have been anywhere from 6 to 18 years old in '73 (32 - 44 years old now).
