TV coverage of "corporates" and athletes/astronauts not the same animal. Maybe if there was a live shot of the corporate big boys (and girls) as they waited to make critical presentations to clients, shareholders, board members, analysts or govt. investigators, you might catch one of them mumbling a "prayer," making the sign of the cross or whatever.....maybe a "Thank God," when it's over.

I have a cousin who's a Silicon Valley CEO, numerous pals who are execs there and once presided over a Cupertino based start-up myself. I don't find the environment quite as Godless as you. There's certainly no shortage of irreverent reverence!

That culture DEMANDS that leaders publicly appear to be completely in control at all times -- athletes/astronauts would love to be in control at all times but they (and those who watch them) are all too familiar with the "bad hop," so it's kind of OK for them to be seen hoping for the best (whatever form that takes).

FWIW, I've been acquainted with/worked with nearly every astronaut through Apollo. Any who invited God or good fortune along for the ride did so with sincere intent, IMO.

This topic has become repetitive for me (Reaganesque, almost). Some people believe in God, some don't. Some pray, some don't. The majority may continue to feel threatened, the minority may continue to feel put-upon.
Life goes on.....

I'm done unless someone comes up with an interesting new twist or decides to insult me.

Best,

Mike

P.S. Don't not think of the DMV employees -- They also serve!
