Dear M: Wheatens are terriers so they have a sense of themselves. However, they are not known to bark incessantly and are reasonably intelligent. Those sites you gave me some time ago would tell you a lot about them. My wife and I selected this breed after spending some time with a neighbors. This was the first dog we agreed upon. Not too big, not too small (Males are about 35-40 pounds females about 5 pounds less), the DO NOT SHED, but require much brushing and grooming because of this (Irish types which I am getting require less). Also, in my mind the best looking dog I ever saw. The most important thing in my mind if you get one is to deal with ONLY a very reputable breeder and find that breeder purely by word of mouth as there are a lot of pretenders out there. Reason for the breeder is this is a purebred and subject to genetic problems due to inbreeding. The truly knowledgeable breeders are very careful in the selection process of the parents to weed out problems. JDN
