one more thing that may apply to all stocks is tax-loss selling, which may affect year-end prices no matter what you think of the company.

i haven't tested (read) on what will happen if all stocks are down, in which case personal income (rather than investment gain) may not be enough to substitute for investment loss. my assumption is that if all stocks are down for the year, it will have little affect on stocks like FTL (who are distressed but are in the process of a turnaround).
