They could, but they'd lose their biggest advantage, which is direct fufillment. While I believe that dell's manufacturing costs are incrementally lower than the other large boxmakers, their differentiating feature is that they cut out the middle man's (retailer's) margin, which results in substantial savings for the consumer. In the case of cellular, the middleman (carrier) makes negative margin on handset sales (ie, subsidizes them). I can't see a hook for dell in that scenario.
