Experts warn of security hole in Microsoft Java machine

What would an issue of NetFlash be without a new report of a Microsoft security flaw?

Yesterday it was a Bulgarian that found a hole in Internet Explorer 5.0 (the Swiss cheese of software). Today we have a report that a German researcher has discovered a flaw in Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine (this is actually part of IE 5 so the cheese now has another hole) that allows hackers to build applets that can read data, change files and delete stuff. Just what we don't want them to do.

AOL passwords reportedly stolen

Microsoft isn't the only one embarrassed this week by hackers. A hacker or hackers have reportedly stolen passwords from some 10,000 AOL users. Here's how the scheme works. The sneaky hacker sends an e-mail with an attachment. When the AOL subscriber opens the attachment, it swipes their password and mails it back to the hacker. Critics contend that AOL has done far too little to solve the problem.

FYI, FWIW

I have been trading NOVL for some time now - mostly on the short side.

Just wanted to let you guys know that there appears to have been institutional selling going on for quite some time, including today.

Big blocks of shares sell, and looks like only retail is on the buy side.

I am not well-versed in NOVL business, so I can't perform FA worth a damn in this case.

Just wanted to give you guys a heads-up. I suspect there is some news "out there" that accounts for this. The sell-off here is too great to be simply a result of unfavorable markets, C.S. leaving, and management changes (those have been factored in). This sell-off seems to indicate "something out there" - I've seen it happen to many stocks.

There are a lot of smart plugged-in folks here - maybe you can ferret it out before it hits the wires!

Good luck!
