Gonzo, i'm a contrarian, and when i see extreme sentiment, i see opportunity, i don't delve into the reasons or the outcome . . .

gold doesn't necessarily mean bomb shelters, gold gained value during the late 70's as an inflation hedge (after another period of govt manipulation squeezing the price), gold gained value in the 30's as a deflation hedge, neither era required bomb shelters (though you may have wanted to stay bombed during the whole period -g-)

A 93% bullish sentiment reading on the $USD in July tells me that it could be the top in the dollar for a while and we will be facing less buying power ahead.

Big bulls start from big bases and the XAU has a whopper 20 year base with the low around 60 and the top around 150 and a spring last August to 48. I like springs -g-

You can still buy it at the low end of the trading range.

If you we do get your 'no exit' , physical gold may only be a temporary reprieve from armagedon, in that case i would want a stockpile of scotch whiskey on hand -g-
