Binx,

My take on the Memory Stick is similar to what has been mentioned in at least two prior conference calls...

1) Sony will need to enlist somebody to manufacture The Stick.
2) Memory Stick may be too large for some portable devices.

I also wanted to add my own comments...

1) Sony has entered the battle for removable memory quite late and will need to really scrap for design-ins. I respect the Sony brand name, but I am less certain people will restrict their shopping habits to a single brand.
2) Sony will be forced to spend a large amount of money promoting The Stick while CompactFlash just seems to sell itself and is "marketed" by a multitude of manufacturers and OEM's.
3) The Stick does not offer any significant advantage over CompactFlash other than it can fit in a floppy adapter.
4) The Stick also has to worry about MMC/SD, not just CompactFlash.
5) Sony may purchase flash chipsets from SanDisk in the future...that is if there is any left over.

Re Sculley and Theater--With Pepsi all he had to sell was a product that was virtually indistinguishable from Coke. With Apple, he didn't get that you had to create the special product; people don't buy PC's on impulse--they actually think about it.

CF buyers are first the manufacturers of the products into which they are designed. And second the buyers of those rather expensive products. Marketing of these products is a lot more subtle than "Pepsi Generation"

Best,
JS
