Not true. Actually, downgrades and upgrades are not correlated with stock price performance at all.

In fact, according to a fine study in Financial Analysts Journal, the only time an analyst's rating has any correlation to stock price performance is when a company's underwriter lowers a rating. In this instance, a company's stock almost always underperforms.

Insert comment about the inadequacy of Chinese Walls here.

I think that is not completely true. Of recent there are shows on venerable TV (CNBS, FOX ..) and print media (TheThrash.com, AnalYsts,...) to supplement entertainment
value of the street.
