At least the folks at Racom knew how to fall on their putter.

The answer to Racom's demise lies to a large extent in the issue of
PZT (lead zirconate titanate) vs SBT (Strontium Bismuth Tantalate). Racom held most of the patents in PZT, an inferior compound to SBT. The patents to SBT are mostly held by Symetrix corporation, www.symetrixcorp.com, Colorado Springs, who licnses to other companies, presumably also Ramtron. This was highlighted by a Forbes article posted on this website. Everyone, Matsubishi, Fujitsu, Siemens etc, started working with Symetrix, leaving Racom nowhere to go. Symetrix is privately held, I believe.
