selling puts in my opinion is no more risky then going long the underlying provided:

1)you have the capacity in cash or margin to accept the assignment
2)it is an issue you want to own

don't use any formula...just use a simple method to determine if the underlying is in an oversold condition. losses occur, just took some in hwp, stock terribly oversold, can't predict natural disasters or unrelated bad market news....if i would have gone long, same loss would occur......at the moment i think there is more overall market risk then specific stock risk. dell news may send shock through the tech sector, if in tandem with bad economic numbers... at the moment intc,msft,uis look pretty good in a vacuum.....market can effect all..
