Rudedog:

Yes it seems like MSD did an about-face from his comments last week at the analst's meetings. And, I think there is more to the story. I trust this management and I got burned by Compaq too, and they were not to be trusted. They proved that more than once. Dell has a track record of trust backed by performance. So, I want to remain level-headed, and wait for the rest of this story. I appreciate their candor, and yes, this was a bad day to break the news. Hopefully, earnings will be a nice surprise and we will get an after earnings boost, as opposed to the euphoric ride in the earnings, followed by a sell-off. I am for honesty and the real story, not something they think we want to hear. And, this company is on a winning path. The stock will rebound to all new highs. It is a matter of time. Earthquakes are horrible and this was an act of God and affected many companies. It seems to be a chain reaction. The biggest tragedy was the loss of life.

Dell's track record has been great so far. This has been a rough month and I am not having fun yet, but I am hanging in there for better days again...Hang Tough!

Hi Rudy,..Re:.disappointed with the "guidance" we all got from MSD only a week ago,

I find the whole thing troubling also. First, if MU serves as a proxy for DRAM pricing, then the increase started in July. Although I didn't dig for specific news, I do remember that the run up was tied to DRAM pricing. <g>

Also, I searched for semiconductor news showing charts of spot DRAM pricing but couldn't find anything yet. Only a brief report from Semico. However, given that these price increases have been going on since July, and that Taiwan supposedly (according to Semico) only supplies 10% of worldwide DRAM, isn't this kind of late to be telling this story?

New Report!! The Rocky DRAM Roadmap: PC and Pricing Trends

ASPs have been climbing since July. The recent tragic earthquake in Taiwan has caused concern about supply even though Taiwan ships less than 10 percent of units worldwide.

Already, last week DRAM was trading at $8.50 per megabyte, up from a recent $3 per megabyte, according to Mike Feibus, principal at Mercury Research Inc., in Scottsdale, Ariz., and a PC Week Corporate Partner.

I could see reduced margins because of increased penetration into the consumer market but something doesn't sit right with this news.<g> Hard to believe that all the reports didn't raise lots of flags earlier. Maybe I'm jinxed, after TYC especially! LOL!

Cheers,

Lee
