Bandai to start Mattel toy sales in Jan

TOKYO, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Major Japanese toymaker Bandai Co Ltd
said on Wednesday it would start selling products from the world's
largest toymaker Mattel Inc (NYSE:MAT - news) in Japan on January
1, 2000, aiming for annual sales of 10 billion yen by 2002.

Bandai said it signed an official agreement on Wednesday with Mattel on their alliance.

On July 21, this year, Bandai and Mattel said they planned an alliance in marketing, sales and
product development.

Mattel will acquire 2.44 million Bandai new shares on October 26 for 3.66 billion yen as
planned, giving it a five percent stake.

Mattel would start sales of Bandai products in Latin America with annual sales target of five
billion yen by the year 2002.

Bandai and Mattel have yet to decide details of Bandai-developed products in the United States.

Bandai shares closed at 2,525 yen on Wednesday, up 55 yen or 2.23 percent.
