Problems cited for the shortfall include supply problems, both in LCD panels (for laptops), server components, and DRAM due to the Taiwan earthquake. The reasons cited for the preannouncement make sense from the view of an analyst. A preannouncement would have major negative implications for Dell, and the rest of the computer industry.
