SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1999--3Com
Corporation (Nasdaq:COMS), a leading global networking company,
recently announced that it will supply cable TV provider, Cablems,
with the equipment and technology required to launch C@blems.com, the
first Internet access service via cable in Tijuana, Mexico.
With this deal, cable access technology supplied by 3Com will be
available to more than 6 million homes throughout Latin America. It
also is expected to give 3Com an industry leading 35% share of the
potential cable modem market in Latin America according to internal
3Com research.
3Com, a worldwide leader in cable access technology, has already
supplied Cablems with over 1000 telco-return and two-way cable modems,
as well as the Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS). "Always on"
Internet will be available to C@blems.com subscribers via the
company?s existing coaxial cable infrastructure. The service will
operate with a transmission rate of 250kbps, compared to only 33kbps
allowed by telephone lines.

(Chile), TVA (Brazil), Image TV (Brazil), Tampico CATV (Mexico) and
TCI (Argentina).
