LG InfoComm Introduces New CDMA Handset for the North American PCS Market
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1999--LG Information & Communication Ltd. (LGIC), today announced the addition of a new single-band PCS phone to its popular line of wireless handsets.

The new LGC-2300W, operating at the 1.9 Gigahertz (GHz) frequency, has been designed to fit the needs of the growing North American PCS market and will be available in November of this year.

"When designing the LGC-2300W, we set out to create a reasonably priced phone with the high-end features usually reserved for other manufacturers' most expensive models," said Y.B. Shim, president of LG SANSYS. "With its small size, stylish looks, and remarkable battery life, we expect this new feature-packed PCS phone to be very popular in the North American market." Measuring 4.96 x 1.88 x 0.93 inches and weighing only 4.23 oz, the single-band LGC-2300W is small, light and attractively designed. The new handset features Enhanced Variable Rate Codec (EVRC) operation, IS-99/707 CDMA data, Over-the-Air Activation, and Double Subsidy Lock.

The flip activated LGC-2300W offers vibration-alert, a large LCD with four text lines and one icon line, multiple ring and melody alerts, and 99-number memory phonebook. The LGC-2300W also provides multiple language support with the user interface available in English, Spanish, or French.

The phone supports the full complement of advanced digital PCS network features including Caller ID, Short Messaging Service, and Voice Mail Notification.

The standard "memory-free" lithium-ion (Li-Ion) extended battery (1650mAH), combined with LG's efficient engineering, enable the new phone to last long periods of time between charges: more than 150 hours in standby mode with a talk-time of 250-270 minutes.

A range of popular accessories are available for the new phone, including a desktop charger, hands-free car kit, cigarette lighter adapter, travel charger, leather case, plastic holster, headset, and a data cable.

Based on Qualcomm's MSM-3000 chipset, the LGC-2300W is expected to provide the same high quality, reliable network interoperability and superior audio quality characteristics that have been the worldwide hallmark of LGIC handsets.

LG, the first company to commercialize CDMA technology anywhere in the world, has been able to achieve efficiencies that enable it to provide a superior product at very competitive pricing. LG has been steadily building a significant presence in the North American wireless cellular marketplace with its highly praised LGC-330W dual-mode cellular phone, the first CDMA wireless handset ever to pass the rigorous certification process of the Cellular Telecommunication Industry Association (CTIA).

Sprint PCS, PrimeCo, and US WEST are among the CDMA PCS carriers currently evaluating LG's line of wireless phones. LG plans to transition its PCS account base from the current LGC-2000W series to the LGC-2300W in the coming months.
