Gold recovers after hectic moves during London fix
11:59 a.m. Oct 19, 1999 Eastern

LONDON, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Gold
recovered in late European trade from
the day's lows after testing support at
$305.00 an ounce and an erratic
afternoon London fixing session on
Tuesday, dealers said.

Dealers said spot gold prices moved
almost four dollars higher during the
afternoon fix in London.

``It went bananas, absolutely ballistic
on the fixing because the fixing was so
far behind that at one point, one person
was trying to buy 1,100 bars which I
have never seen before,' one London
dealer said.
