There appears to be a cautiously agressive buyer today. But the overhang of that seller (Fidelity??) is still feeding any willing buyers. Just observations on the passing trades.

Alcatel Confirms Has SBC ADSL Contract, Shr Up 4.9%

PARIS -- Alcatel SA (ALA) confirmed Tuesday that it has received a contract from SBC Communications Inc. (SBC) to supply asymmetric digital subscriber line equipment for SBC's $6 billion Project Pronto high-speed Internet service.

An Alcatel spokesman declined to give financial details of the contract - estimated by market watchers at around $4.5 billion - but said Alcatel will be the sole supplier of ADSL and digital local loop carrier equipment for the service.

Alcatel shares rose on the confirmation, up 4.9%, or EUR6.10, to EUR131.40 at 1238 GMT.
