I have never used tampons. I have found that I like to use a pad with wings and THEN a super absorbent "overnight" pad on top of it- this awesome combination completely protects the underwear! It is absolutely fabulous- because the wings protect the sides of the undies (while being rather wimpily padded on top) and the overnight pad (Kotex and the off-brand at Lucky are my personal favorites) and the super absorbent GIANT pad sops up everything. Cannot recommend this enough. I hit on this combination about 3 years ago- and I haven't needed my "recipe" for my undies ever since- but I still use my laundry cocktail on the undies- because some people in our family have skid marks (and IT IS NOT ME).
