The E-content Company Announces X-WAP, the First XML-based Application to
Deliver Content to Any Wireless Device

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1999--

Alcatel, Motorola, Nokia and SoftBook Press Collaborate with
the e-content company to Deliver e-Business Anywhere, Anytime

The e-content company, a division of Interleaf, Inc. (Nasdaq:LEAF) and leader in delivering XML-based content management solutions
for e-business, today announced X-WAP(TM) (XML Wireless Application Product), a new BladeRunner application that will allow
enterprises to distribute information to any wireless device, dramatically extending enterprise e-business. Through the power of
eXtensible Stylesheet Language (XSL), enterprises can now dramatically extend the reach of their intranets by seamlessly transforming
WML, HTML, and XML business content for presentation to wireless devices such as cellular telephones, personal digital assistants,
pagers and e-books. The e-content company will be debuting X-WAP at the ICE '99 in San Francisco (October 19-21) with
demonstrations of content being served live to a variety of mobile and wireless devices including the One Touch Pocket cellular phone
from Alcatel; the Palm VII PDA from Palm Computing, Inc., a 3Com Company; the Nokia 9000il Communicator and the 7110 cellular
phone; the StarTac cellular phone and PageWriter 2000X digital pager both from Motorola; and the Softbook electronic book from
Softbook Press.

To date, wireless access to the Web has required some type of gateway filtering technology or specialized site; neither of these flexibly
adapt to numerous devices each with unique capabilities such as screen size. With X-WAP, content in XML, or structured HTML, can be
efficiently transformed into output, exploiting the unique features of each device. In addition, with X-WAP's sophisticated XSL creation
tools, content providers have unprecedented control over how their content is rendered on all these devices.

"By 2002, half of all devices connected to the Web will be devices other than PCs according to industry projections," said Jaime
Ellertson, President and CEO of the e-content company. "X-WAP now extends BladeRunner, our XML-based content management
solution, to reach virtually any wireless device, dramatically increasing enterprise e-business."

"We are on the verge of a significant development in accessing information free from any geographical or physical barriers, " said Michael
J. Mazierka, Director of Research for CAP Ventures, Inc. "The e-content company's X-WAP product will be a crucial breakthrough. Now,
serving dynamic e-content to wireless mobile devices will not only be routine, but also fundamental to conducting e-business."

X-WAP Partnerships

As part of this release, the e-content company is announcing collaborations with leading wireless communications companies to jointly
develop solutions for delivering dynamic customized content on wireless devices. To date, participants include Alcatel, Motorola, Nokia,
and Softbook Press, and will be expanded to include leading content providers, aggregators, Web portals, and telecommunications
carriers who are all part of the X-WAP value chain.

BladeRunner Web(TM): XML-based Dynamic Content Server

The X-WAP application is based on BladeRunner Web, a Web facing server that focuses on the dynamic assembly of HTML, WML, and
XML. The primary benefit to this approach is that BladeRunner Web will hold a single copy of content from which a large number of
presentations can be generated, which will make it the first dynamic XML content server available.

X-WAP will be available this quarter to participants of the Early Adopter Program as a Technology Preview.

Rande- re:competition...

My apologies, I mis-communicated.

I understand that Hear enforces their patents. Hear also buys companies, like RogerWilco, that do the same thing.

The link I provided you is a company that is doing the same thing as Hear, and there is no patent suit against them... they have patents pending of their own.

Looking at history, Hear can either enforce their patent (like Lipstream) or buy them (like RogerWilco) or compete with them (has yet to be done).

Hope I am making sense now.

Just my opinion.

Jon :)
